Back from the Southern Hemisphere

Hello! No, I have not fallen of the face of the planet, but it felt like it sometimes!

We returned to France the day before yesterdays (Johannesburg to Cairo to Paris to Honfleur on the Normandy coast for an oyster dinner) – what a way to end an incredible voyage thru Southern Africa!

Our travels took us thru South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia, with an original plan for 6 weeks, but we saw and experienced so much during these past 3 weeks, we felt it was best to come “home”.

So, when you are free, I have sorted thru the photos and posted a slideshow on our BumpyTours flickr page. Be prepared, as there are 500 images! Bon voyage!

Ooga Booga!

African Mask, originally uploaded by On Linden Way.

Loved this 4 foot long African mask in rusted metal hanging on the wall at Thulani. I wish we had space in our bags for him, but I couldn’t convince Bumpy!

See you later !

Thulani Lodge – Home for a Day

Thulani Lodge, originally uploaded by On Linden Way.

We discovered Thulani Lodge in the Melville district of Johannesburg three years ago. It has just a couple of rooms, a nice pool, great breakfast and is just down the street from a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Back again here for the start and most likely finish of our current BumpyTour: tomorrow morning and we are off on a 14-day private guided tour of Victoria Falls and then onto Botswana. I’m not too sure of the internet connections in the Kalahari, but will let you know!

Grrr!

Grrrr, originally uploaded by On Linden Way.

Loved this royal lion (or whatever sort of creature he is) from the Chateau in Amboise, with his wild eyes, flared nostrils and tongue sticking out at you in defiance. I’ll have to remember this look if I ever go trick-or-treating again.

We spent Thursday in Amboise, visiting the chateau and relaxed before consuming a sumptuous meal. The menu was a “degustation” (tasting), so there were lots of little courses. Very interesting fusion cuisine, which we don’t often eat.

Yesterday and today are less glamorous as we are confined to Charles de Gaulle airport. But, we have a one-way tickets to Johannesburg and the fun begins!

I’ll do my best to post from the road, and will surely let you know all about the trip, where we end up and what sort of adventures we have!
