Stayin Cool!

Stayin’ Cool!, originally uploaded by On Linden Way.

Where did that weekend go?! We came back from the Danube road trip and I’ve been editing pics at night and hiking during the day. Woo hoo! The sun finally decided to show up again, the temperature could not be more perfect, so we move our butts out the door first thing in the morning.

The feature highlight of the day was at the mountain-top lake, where Oskar & Maya quickly discovered the joys of swimming in cool calm water. Fetching the stick turned into a contest: Oskar (alias Stubby (his legs are too short)) turned out to be quite a good swimmer! Very relaxed and purposeful in his strokes. Miss Maya on the other hand, although the gazelle on land, became an awkward gangly creature in water. She tried ever so hard to keep her head and shoulders as far above the water as possible, making her paw-paddling loud and splashy. Maya is very competitive and was more than annoyed that Oskar stole the water show!

On the way down the mountain we stopped off at a ski “gastehaus” to admire (again) the views. Albeit quiet during the summer, this place is apparently hopping when the “pistes” are covered in snow, the schnaaps flowing at the multi-bars. I’d love to come back and experience this region in winter, it should be such fun! Bumpy had his Austrian beer and I had this very refreshing Austrian Spritzer. What’s the red stuff you ask? In a regular spritzer (white wine and club soda) they add a slice of lemon and a tablespoon of cranberry jam! The jam part melts a bit adding just a touch of sweetness, and the berries themselves are delightfully tart. I plan on serving these at a brunch someday; let me know if you try them!
